By J.B. Priestley
Athens College, Athens 1999
The Hellenic Centre, London 1998
Saturday evening, June 1932, radio sounds of rag & jazz, cigar and cigarette smoke in the air, old brandy and a ‘charming little group’ of friends in a country cottage enjoying themselves. Almost a year has passed since Martin died and it is just half an hour since they finished dinner… The night runs smoothly until … a musical cigarette box is opened, another cigarette is lit and danger lies just around the corner…
Written in 1932 it is claimed to be J.B. Priestley most renowned play.
“There is truth and truth…and some of it happened to have been hidden away and was perhaps a lot better hidden away…”

Each night, under the spell of the cast’s sterling performance and a stupendous set, the audience beast ended purring like a pussy cat….The concept was bold, risky, but breathtaking……We had long waited for such quality……Suddenly with Theatre Lab Company we are witnessing a sonic boom into all-round quality…
